Meet the HiCone™ progressing cavity pump

HiCone™ progressing cavity pump, a new design that genuinely addresses the needs of plant operators, allowing for longer life cycles and maintenance intervals.

A revolutionary adjustment system

Instead of replacing the rotor and stator after the erosion of the contact surfaces, Vogelsang HiCone™ allows you to advance the cone-shaped rotor into the mated cone-shaped stator by simply rotating a single adjusting nut. This provides renewed compression of the stator elastomer against the rotor. This is accomplished without changing the shape of the cavity or deforming the sealing line. The benefit is that the same flows and pressures are achieved when the pump was new.

Regaining performance that once required several stator replacements can now be achieved with a few turns of an adjustment nut using a standard wrench.  HiCone Brochure and video here.

Removing Safety Concerns, Ultimate convenience

Past attempts by other manufacturers to design an adjusting system required holding the stator elastomer in place with a temporary clamshell or metallic “slats.” These multi-component designs pose risks such as possible rupture and leakage. The escaping of pumped liquids can allow exposure to biohazards or dangerous chemicals.

Furthermore, these old methods of compression adjustment were tedious to perform and tended to deform the cavities of the pump, leading to poor performance and unpredictable wear.

Conversely, Vogelsang’s design of the HiCone incorporates a stator exterior that is one continuous steel tube, making leaking of pumped material virtually impossible. This also allows for precise internal compression adjustments utilizing the advantages of HiCone geometry, and an easy-to-perform adjustment setting is available as a manual or automatic system.

Long-Term Cost Savings

The ability to make these adjustments in a simple and timely manner significantly reduces spare parts consumption. The diagram below suggests the life cycle of a typical PC pump (gray line) compared to HiCone (red line). You’ll see that HiCone is adjusted to regain performance, as compared to the typical process for maintaining a standard PC  pump, which requires a stator replacement and then rotor and stator replacement, in some cases, multiple times before HiCone rotor and stator needs replaced. So not only does HiCone reduce the need for regular parts purchases, but it eliminates the labor and downtime associated with regaining performance and replaces it with a simple adjustment.

Maintenance Friendly

Removal of the Rotor and Stator is achieved without unbolting the piping. Removal of the gearbox/motor and access to the mechanical seal is possible without disassembling the pump.

Removal of the Rotor and Stator:

  1. Unbolt the Inclined Flange & Intermediate Flange
  2. Lift upward and unthread the tie rod, separating the rotor from the drivetrain
  3. Remove Rotor and Stator without unbolting the piping
