XSplit®: Effective slurry spreading in dry conditions thanks to separation
Case Study: Niemann Farm

Problem

Despite using a modern trailing shoe system, fibers from the raw slurry remain on the grassland in dry conditions.

Solution

By using the XSplit Separator, the slurry becomes fiber-free - this significantly improves infiltration and feed quality.

The customer and the problem

On farmer Niemann's dairy farm, a 15 meter BlackBird trailing shoe is used for spreading liquid manure. Despite the precise placement and the high-quality technology, a problem arises in dry weather conditions: The liquid components of the raw slurry are absorbed into the soil - but the fibers remain on the surface. After the cut and the subsequent slurry application, the fibers grow up with the gras and end up in the crop of the following grass cut.

The solution

Since an XSplit separator has also been used on the farm, the situation has improved significantly. The slurry is separated into liquid and solid components before spreading. The liquid part, which is spread via the BlackBird trailing shoe, no longer contains any long-fiber components. This means that even in dry soil conditions, the slurry seeps into the ground evenly and without leaving any residue.

The combination of separation and precise placement via the trailing shoe brings clear advantages, especially in dry conditions: The nutrients enter the soil with minimal loss, without contaminating the plant surface - and therefore without any negative effects on feed quality.

Advantages

  • Clean plant surface: No fibers from liquid manure in the feed - better for feed hygiene and animal health
  • Better infiltration: Liquid parts of the slurry seep away quickly and completely, even in dry conditions
  • Odour reduction: Less visible liquid manure = less odour development
  • Flexible application period: Can also be used in difficult weather conditions
