Getting the most out of slurry at Grass and Muck 2018

Vogelsang Ireland promotes efficient and low emission slurry spreading

| News, Agricultural technology

Slurry spreading at the FTMTA Grass and Muck 2018 was a very popular demonstration, which showcased environmentally friendly methods of slurry application most of which were using the Vogelsang ExaCut precision distributor. The crowd gathered around the ExaCut distributor workshop at Vogelsang Ireland’s stand to learn about low emission slurry spreading and a better understanding of the ExaCut’s components and functions.

Last week’s FTMTA Grass and Muck at the Gurteen Agricultural College attracted its largest crowd of machinery enthusiasts, farmers, contractors and experts enjoying the sunshine and latest machinery innovations.  From advanced silage equipment to big slurry tankers, everything was on display and the chance to see it in action during the working demonstrations.

The slurry spreading was just one part of the demonstrations showcasing environmentally friendly methods of slurry application. With the TAMS and LESS agricultural schemes encouraging low emission slurry spreading and an expected ban on the splash plate, there was a big interest for dribble bar and trailing shoe systems. These systems are essential in distributing slurry directly to the ground to reduce greenhouse gas and ammonia emissions.

In addition to the demo plots, there was a large trade village where Vogelsang Ireland had the opportunity to provide guidance on how to succeed in optimal slurry spreading with its versatile range of slurry spreading and management technology. The crowd gathered around the ExaCut distributor workshop to learn different aspects of its design, operation and preventative maintenance. The ExaCut constantly distributes slurry to the distribution hoses of any spreading system and the demonstration provided a better understanding of its components and functions to ensure optimal performance on farms.

A few of the other Vogelsang  products on display included the RotaCut macerator that reliably macerates all fibrous and course matter in the slurry while also separating stones for a more flowable slurry, and the rotary lobe pump, which is self-priming, reversible and easy to use for all farming applications. Additionally, Vogelsang’s trailing shoe system developed with a sturdy and flexible shaft allows for maximum working widths up to 30 metres and consistently follows the soil contour.

Mark Hughes, Managing Director of Vogelsang Ireland, says, “Low-emission slurry spreading is becoming a top priority in farming and Vogelsang technology has been a pioneer in slurry spreading technology setting new benchmarks and enabling our customers to best use the nutrients in slurry through optimal spreading thereby lowering their operating costs.”

The agri-food sector is one of Ireland’s largest industries and the demand for Irish products is growing rapidly. Therefore, there is a strong need for farming to be efficient, fast and sustainable. As the show came to a close, farmers had some forward thinking to do – what’s the best machine for reseeding and maximum yield, how can I work faster and better, what slurry method do I invest in?

But one thing is for sure, there are plenty of machinery options and Vogelsang Ireland is always ready to find a customised solution when it comes to spreading slurry.
