Rotary lobe pumps IQ and VX series: Low-wearing pumps for abrasive paints
Case Study - Harold Scholz & Co. GmbH

Problem

High noise levels in the production building; Self-priming pumps

Solution

Vogelsang rotary lobe pumps: IQ and VX series

The customer and the problem

Harold Scholz & Co. GmbH based in Recklinghausen, Germany, turns raw materials into pigments and offers these as a powder, stabile dispersion, granules or in other forms.

Quiet pumps needed
During the production process, paints are dispersed in three mixing units containing water and pigments. Small, accurate dosing pumps take on the task of feeding. When it comes to transport the finished product, quiet, powerful and durable pumps are needed. The reason they have to be quiet is that Scholz centralized several production processes into one hall in 2010 and the enormously high noise levels in the new building had to be reduced.

The solution

The hose pumps used up until then were replaced with Vogelsang rotary lobe pumps from the model series VX136-70Q. With an output of 60 m³/h at pressures of up to 10 bar, these pumps can transfer the contents of a mixer (around 6,500 kg of paint) to a tank within 10 minutes.

Robust and self-priming
The finished products are stored in 25 tanks. The IQ series from Vogelsang fill up these tanks as well as truck tanks or liter boxes. As their flow direction can be reversed, they are particularly suitable for this. The new IQ pumps convey the end product five times faster than the old centrifugal and hose pumps.

Although the tanks are partly underground, the IQ pumps can be installed at ground level. They are self-priming up to nine meters. That makes operation and maintenance much easier, saving time and meaning less effort. Furthermore the pump only has a few spare parts, which keeps the costs of maintenance down.

Advantages of the Vogelsang rotary lobe pumps

  • Quiet
  • Robust and maintenance friendly
  • Reversible direction of flow, self-priming and insensitive to dry running
