Wastewater
Robust technology for reliable protection from clogging in pipe systems or channels
If wet wipes and entangled material are clogging waste water pumps in sewers, XRipper waste water grinders are the effective solution. The twin-shaft grinder powerfully shreds foreign matter such as hygienic products, textiles and garbage to prevent entanglement of fibrous foreign matter, thereby protecting pumps, valves and pipe systems from clogging. The twin-shaft grinder even easily shreds large entanglements that would immediately block the circulation pumps in the digesters of sewage treatment plants. The XRipper therefore protects against operational interruptions and disruptions in channels or sewage treatment plants.
Adapted to the requirements of waste water technology, the XRipper is available in three different designs. Aside from the extremely easy to maintain XRS series, the XRipper XRP series is also an excellent choice. It was specially designed for inline installation in pipe systems where space is limited, while the XRipper XRC series was specially designed for use in open channels and/or upstream from intake or discharge structures. Thanks to the flexible Sewage Integration Kit (SIK) the XRipper XRC can also be easily positioned against slanted or rounded walls, with removal being equally straightforward. All XRippers share this in common: the shredding tools, called Ripper rotors, rotate at a low speed. This means that the XRipper delivers extremely high torque for shredding even at low drive power. At the same time, the Ripper rotors clean themselves, as a result of rotating at different speeds. Thanks to the XRipper's contact-free functional principle, power consumption during idling is minimal. The XRipper's user-friendly maintenance and service concepts are tailored to enable rapid maintenance. Even parts can be easily replaced without hassle on-site by sewage treatment plant personnel or by a service partner.
Industry
XRipper - for an economical grinding of solids and foreign matter in fluids
The XRipper, the twin-shaft grinder from Vogelsang, has been designed for an economical grinding of solids and foreign matter in fluids. It can be used in industrial waste water plants or even in different processes in the chemical, food or recycling industry. Thanks to their robust Ripper rotors, the XRipper grinds different material without any problem of blockages and protect efficiently other system components as pumps. As others Vogelsang products, the design of the XRipper follows the QuickService concept, making the maintenance a very easy and fast job.
We offer some options as for example ATEX design, which allows the XRipper to be installed in explosive atmospheres in the chemical industry, or a Sewer Integration Kit, which makes the installation of a XRipper in an industrial wastewater in the food industry much easier.

Installed directly in the fluid current, the waste water (or other flowable medium) passes through the XRipper virtually without hindrance. Thanks to the generously dimensioned housing, pressure loss is minimal. Solid matter and foreign matter arrive at the XRipper along with the fluid flow, and are then guided into the central area, to the Ripper rotors. These take hold of the disruptive matter, draw it in, and shred it. In the process, solid matter is ripped, the sharp edges cut long-fibered material to pieces, and coarse and brittle components are ground up. The size-reduction ratio is adjusted by modifying the width and contour of the Ripper blades. With low speeds and high torque, the XRipper only requires low drive power to efficiently prevent clogging, blockages and damage to downstream pumps and valves.
A variety of different drive options are available for the XRipper. In most cases, geared motors and/or parallel shaft geared motors supply the drive power. Suitably equipped versions are available for operation in temporarily or permanently flooded conditions. Alternatively, the XRipper can be driven by a hydraulic motor. Possible construction variants include:
Drive power via geared motor (XRipper XRS)
- Power transfer via coupling
- Mounted on a torsionally stiff motor base
90° tilted version – geared motor (XRipper XRS)
- Drive power via geared motor
- Power transfer via coupling
- Mounted on a torsionally stiff special base
Drive power via parallel shaft geared motor (XRipper XRS | XRP | XRC)
- Mounted directly on the drive shaft of the XRipper
- Mounted on a torsionally stiff special base
Hydraulic motor (XRipper XRS | XRP | XRC)
- Drive power via directly flanged-in hydraulic motor
- No base required
Submersible motors (XRipper XRP | XRC)
- Drive power via submersible motor
- with standardized IEC adapter, constructed to be water-tight on a special parallel shaft gear reducer
- For operation in temporarily or permanently flooded conditions
