Our First Sustainability Report – A Step Into The Future
With the new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the European Union has established binding standards for sustainability reporting. From 2028, companies of our size will also be required to report in accordance with these guidelines. We have decided not to wait for this step but to voluntarily publish the first sustainability report for the entire Vogelsang Group today, based on the EU standards, the ESRS, in a transparent and comprehensive manner.
In the process, we are consciously moving forward: for us, sustainability means taking responsibility for people, the environment, and the economy in equal measure. At the same time, we see our path as a process of learning and further development. Our goal is to continuously improve, both in our commitment to sustainability and in our reporting on it.
A holistic view of sustainability
Our 2024 report is a milestone: it highlights our entire value chain on an ecological, social, and economic level.
Environment: Climate protection and circular economy
In the environmental sector, we have carried out CO₂e accounting across all key categories from Scope 1 to 3 for the first time. This creates the basis for us to align ourselves with national climate protection targets. Our goal is to formulate concrete reduction targets for the future and to initiate targeted measures for decarbonization.
A resource-efficient and circular economy is central to our business. That is why we are aligning our strategies in such a way that we can enable and gradually increase the use of secondary materials in the future. At the same time, we promote sustainable procurement, in which cooperation with our suppliers is of crucial importance. Together, we want to optimize resource use, reduce environmental impact, and drive sustainable innovation.
Social: Focus on people
We have also set strategic goals for respectful coexistence. One of these is to create an attractive working environment that focuses on appreciation and support. An essential component of this is fair working conditions that respond to the different realities of our employees' lives. With flexible working hours, we want to strengthen the compatibility of work and family life and promote work-life balance.
Another key element is training and continuing education. Especially in times of skilled labor shortages and demographic change, training and skills development are key for us in attracting, developing and retaining qualified specialists in the long term. In addition, we promote the skills development of all employees through continuing education opportunities, programs to raise awareness of diversity and equal opportunity, and the continuous development of our corporate culture.
Equally indispensable are occupational safety and health promotion. At Vogelsang, these have been firmly anchored in our DIN ISO 45001 management system for years, which we are constantly expanding and improving. This is complemented by our “VFit” occupational health management system.
Governance: Responsibility in management and the supply chain
Sustainable action requires transparent and responsible corporate governance. For us, this includes strong partnerships and business relationships. An important step in this direction is the introduction of our Code of Conduct for Business Partners, which is based on internationally recognized standards. It defines our expectations for responsible corporate governance and clarifies our sustainability requirements for business partners.
Our supply chain is of particular importance in this regard. In order to minimise risks relating to environmental compatibility, working conditions, human rights, and governance, we have begun to systematically analyze the impacts, risks and opportunities along our supply chain (IRO) and develop measures. We intend to intensify this approach in the future in order to create transparency, identify IROs at an early stage and exploit potential for improvement.
Why we are reporting today
We are aware that the path to greater sustainability is never complete. But we want to create the maximum transparency now, identify opportunities, formulate concrete goals, and continuously expand our measures. With our first sustainability report, we are sending a clear signal for a future in which economic success and social responsibility go hand in hand.
